Orcas is the largest of the San Juan Islands and the one with real hills: a horseshoe of forest, lakes and shoreline wrapped around a mountain park. Almost everything you came for — Mt. Constitution, the ferry landing, the main village — sits 20–30 minutes apart by road, so a car (or a bike and patience) decides your trip. Two nights covers the summit, the village and one kayak or whale-watching morning; three lets you slow down.

- Orcas Island
- Rain-shadow island: drier and sunnier than Seattle, but wind and fog roll in fast on the water. July–September is the reliable window; winter is quiet, wet and many places close.
Peak season is July–August and holiday weekends; ferry space and beds are the bottleneck, not the weather.
