The western Lake Erie shore is a 100 km strip of mainland towns plus two ferry islands. Cedar Point and the islands are the draw; the mainland is where beds are cheaper and cars are useful. Sleep in Sandusky for the park and Jet Express access, in Port Clinton for Put-in-Bay and Catawba, and treat Kelleys Island and Put-in-Bay as day-trips unless you want a car-free night.
