This is the parkland-to-boreal transition strip between Edmonton and the north: farmland in the south, forest and lakes in the north, no commercial airport, no rail passenger service. Most visitors see it from Highway 43 or Highway 2 on the way to Grande Prairie, Peace River or the Alaska Highway. It earns a night if you want Lesser Slave Lake beaches, the Athabasca or Pembina rivers, or winter skiing near Westlock; otherwise it is a fuel-and-food stop.
