Mull is the Inner Hebrides island that is easy to reach and hard to move around. The Oban–Craignure ferry takes 50 minutes and runs roughly hourly in summer, but away from the 11-mile Craignure–Salen stretch and the last few miles into Tobermory the roads are single-track with passing places. With a car you can sleep in Tobermory and reach Calgary, Lochbuie and Fionnphort in a day. Without one you are tied to the West Coast Motors buses and the tour coaches that meet the ferry, so pick one base and one direction per day.
