Mono County is the high Eastern Sierra between Yosemite's east gate and the Nevada line: Mono Lake's tufa, Bodie's ghost town, Mammoth Mountain, June Lake and a string of hot springs along US-395. Almost all of it is public land, so you sleep in one of four small towns and drive between sights. US-395 is the only year-round highway in from California; the Sierra passes (Tioga, Sonora, Monitor) close with snow.
