Chinggis Khaan International (UBN) handles the country's regular international traffic. It sits about 50 km south of central Ulaanbaatar, so allow 45–60 minutes by road into the city.
Direct or near-direct services link Ulaanbaatar with Seoul, Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Istanbul, with seasonal routes appearing and disappearing. From the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand you will connect through one of those hubs. Typical total journey times are roughly 12–14 hours from London, 16–22 hours from the US, and 18–26 hours from Australia or New Zealand, depending on the connection.
Domestic flights to Ölgii, Mörön, Hovd and other aimag centres leave from Ulaanbaatar, not from the international terminal, and are the fast way to reach the west if you are short on time.

Land and sea entry
Mongolia is landlocked, so there is no sea route. Two land corridors matter: from Russia at Naushki–Sükhbaatar (the Trans-Mongolian rail line) and Solovyovsk–Erentsav in the west, and from China at Zamiin-Uud–Erlian, also on the rail line.
Both crossings require a visa for the country you are leaving as well as for Mongolia, and border processing can take hours. The train from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar is a popular option in summer; seats sell out well ahead, so book early.
If you cross by road in the west, note that the three western provinces run on UTC+7, an hour behind Ulaanbaatar.
When to book
Summer (June–August) is peak season and the only time some seasonal routes operate. Book international flights 2–3 months ahead for the best fares and availability, and book domestic flights and the Beijing train as soon as your dates are fixed.
Winter flights are cheaper but schedules thin out, and connections through Beijing or Seoul can involve long layovers. If you are travelling for the Naadam festival in July, treat flights and accommodation as a package to book early.
Practical notes
Check your visa or visa-free status before booking; rules differ sharply by passport and change often. Travel insurance should cover the long overland distances and any domestic flight disruption, since weather can cancel countryside plans.
Bring a printed copy of your onward ticket and accommodation address; border and check-in staff may ask. Once you land, sort a local SIM or eSIM and cash before heading out of the capital, as ATMs and card acceptance thin out fast in the countryside.
