The Merrimack Valley is a string of mill cities and small towns 25–50 minutes northwest of Boston along the Merrimack River. Lowell carries the museums and the festival calendar, Andover and Westford carry the walkable town centres and rail parking, Lawrence and Haverhill carry the Latin American food. Trains reach Lowell, Andover, Lawrence and Haverhill; the rest needs a car.
