Step by step
Day 1: land at SSR International in the south-east and drive straight to your west or south-west base. The transfer to Flic en Flac or Le Morne takes about an hour by car; allow more in the afternoon peak. Settle in, swim, eat near the hotel.
Days 2–3: lagoon days on the west coast. Le Morne for the mountain and kite beaches, Flic en Flac for sunsets and cheaper stays. Book a boat or snorkel trip for one of these days rather than both.
Day 4: Port Louis on a weekday. Market and Aapravasi Ghat in the morning, street food for lunch, Caudan waterfront and the Citadel in the afternoon. The market is quiet on Sundays.
Day 5: inland loop — Chamarel and the Black River Gorges. Start early; clouds build by noon and the light goes flat. This is the day a car or driver earns its cost.
Day 6: keep it free. Weather decides: east coast lagoon if the wind is up in the west, or a second hike if it is clear.
Day 7: last morning near the base, then the drive back to MRU. From 10 nights, move to Belle Mare or Grand Baie for the second half instead of returning west. From 14 nights, fly to Rodrigues midweek and keep the last night near the airport.

Distances on the map are short but the coast roads are slow, so a 40 km transfer can take an hour. Driving is on the left. Buses exist and are cheap, but they are sparse on the coast roads and slow for day-trips; a car or a driver is the practical choice for the inland loop.
May–December is the cooler, drier half of the year and the safer bet for a first trip. January–March is cyclone season; if you travel then, keep plans flexible and check the Mauritius Meteorological Services forecasts.
