A realistic two-week trip mixing the capital, Andasibe and the RN7 south lands near the mid-range band. Two people sharing a car with driver pay roughly €30–50 each per day for transport alone, which is why solo travellers on the same route pay far more per person.

How to pay and carry money
The currency is the Malagasy ariary (MGA). Cash is the norm outside larger hotels and the handful of upmarket lodges that take cards. ATMs exist in towns such as Antananarivo, Antsirabe and Toliara but not in national parks or on long road stretches, so carry more cash than you think you need before any park or remote leg.
Bring euros as backup and change them at banks or licensed bureaux rather than on the street. Park entry and compulsory local guides are paid on site in cash in many parks. Small notes help: change is scarce in villages.

The second is flights. Domestic schedules change at short notice, and rebooking or a forced extra night in the capital adds both a hotel bill and a lost day. Never book a domestic leg on the same day as your international flight.
The third is time. Taxi-brousse is cheap but slow, so a budget trip that saves €200 on transport can lose two days of a two-week holiday. Decide which you are buying: money or days.
