Korpo is a former municipality in the Archipelago Sea, now part of Pargas, with a medieval church, a handful of villages and roughly 1,000 year-round residents. The main island is about 10 km across and has no local bus network, so a car or bike decides what you can actually do. Swedish is the everyday language; English works everywhere.

Getting around

No local buses except school runs. The Skärgårdsbuss coaches from Turku can be used when the timetable happens to fit. Otherwise you need a car, a bike or a taxi. There is a short separate cycleway between the Korpo school and the main village; the rest of the Archipelago Trail here has no cycleways.

Watch out

Safety

Very low crime; the real risks are remote roads, thin off-season services and weather on the water. Tell someone your plan if you go out to the outer islands.
  • There is a gap in road-ferry services overnight: check the last crossing before you plan a late arrival.
  • The Åland ferry to Galtby is free for foot passengers but expensive for vehicles, and the fee depends on whether you stay off the Åland mainland.
  • The Iniö–Mossala road ferry is the one paid road ferry in the area; other minor-island ferries do not take cars.
  • Faffas B&B takes no reservations and is cash only.
  • Minor-island ferries often need advance booking by phone.
