The honest verdict

Kigali is clean, orderly and hilly. Distances look short on a map but the slopes make walking slow, so the four clusters sit on separate hills and a short car or moto ride joins them. The Kigali Genocide Memorial is the anchor of a first visit and deserves a quiet half-day. Umuganda, the community-work morning on the last Saturday of each month, changes traffic and opening hours; plan transfers around it.
