Kavango is the river corridor of northern Namibia: the Okavango runs along the Angolan border, villages line the south bank, and the tarred B8 crosses the whole region. Almost nobody comes here for Kavango alone. It works as the natural break on the Windhoek–Etosha–Caprivi–Chobe route, where the alternative is a 10-hour driving day. One night at Rundu or Divundu buys you a river sunset, a boat trip and the Mahango loop before you carry on east.

Kavango gets more rain than the rest of Namibia, so the green season is greener here — and the roads worse. Dry-season months are also the peak for the whole northern circuit, so book river lodges ahead.
