Kalka
Kalka is a transit hub: 1 h for the toy train to Shimla, or a half-day to see Pinjore Garden and the temple. Not a base.
Kalka sits at the Haryana–Himachal border as the gateway to Shimla via the UNESCO-listed Kalka–Shimla Toy Train. The town itself is small: the Mughal-style Pinjore Garden (Yadavindra Gardens) and the Kali Mata Temple are the main sights. Most travellers pass through in a few hours.
