Kalgoorlie–Boulder is a working gold town 600 km east of Perth, in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia. The Super Pit, a century of mining money in the Hannan Street facades and the surrounding ghost towns are the draw. Two nights covers it; three if you want to push out to Kambalda, Coolgardie or Menzies.

Getting around

The centre is walkable. Local buses run three routes about hourly in daylight (Route 2 links Kalgoorlie and Boulder; weekend services are mornings only) — check the current operator and timetable at the visitor centre. For the Super Pit, Boulder and the ghost towns you need a car: book well ahead, as mining companies take most of the fleet.
