A weekend in Jaipur: 2-day itinerary

Jaipur rewards a tight route, not a long list. The monuments sit in two clusters: the walled old city (City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Johari and Bapu bazaars) and the northern hills (Amber, Jaigarh, Nahargarh). Give each cluster half a day and you avoid the worst of the traffic between them.

Day one: Amber Fort at opening, then Jaigarh or Nahargarh for the view, an afternoon in the old city, and bazaars in the evening. Day two: City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal in the morning, Albert Hall and a longer market walk after lunch, then a rooftop dinner. If you have only one day, use the one-day plan instead.

Most Jaipur monuments charge separate entry for Indian and foreign visitors, and several sell a combined ticket that covers multiple sites on the same day. Treat every figure below as a 2026 estimate and check at the counter, because rates are revised and the composite ticket rules change.

Hours follow a rough pattern: forts and palaces open in the morning and close late afternoon, with the last entry well before closing. Friday is worth checking site by site, as some monuments close one day a week.

Jaipur is a short flight or an overnight train from Delhi, and the drive on the expressway takes roughly five hours in good conditions. Most weekend visitors arrive Friday night and leave Sunday night, which gives two full days.

From the airport or railway station, use an app cab or a prepaid taxi counter rather than an unmarked driver who approaches you inside the terminal. For the sightseeing days, a car with driver is the simplest way to link the old city and the northern forts; autos work for short hops inside the walls.

Stay inside or just outside the old city if you want to walk to dinner and the bazaars; stay near Amer Road or the highway if you prefer quieter hotels and easy fort access. A weekend is short, so pick one base and do not move.

Dress for modesty at temples and palaces, carry water, and expect persistent selling in the bazaars. Bargaining is normal; walking away is the standard move. If you want a guide, arrange it through your hotel or a licensed operator rather than a stranger at the gate.
