Hong Kong SAR
Sleep once on Hong Kong Island or in Tsim Sha Tsui; do the Peak early on a clear day, the harbour in the evening, and Lantau or an outlying island only with a spare day.
Rules in force · 3
- Hong Kong ↗Hong Kong has its own immigration control: entry to Hong Kong does not permit entry to mainland China, and the reverse. Check the Immigration Department list for your passport.
- Hong Kong ↗Buy an Octopus card or use a contactless bank card at MTR gates; single-journey tickets cost the same but queue at machines.
- Hong Kong ↗When Typhoon Signal No. 8 or a Black rainstorm warning is issued, most public transport and many businesses stop: stay where you are and re-plan the next day.
The SAR is one base and a few trips. The island side (Central–Soho) is quieter at night and closer to the Peak; the Kowloon side is closer to markets and the harbour view. The Star Ferry and the MTR cross the harbour in minutes, so do not move hotels between them.
Where to sleep
Central–Soho for the Peak and quieter nights, Tsim Sha Tsui for the harbour and markets.
Ferry and bus days; check the last return.

- Central–Soho 3, one evening in Tsim Sha Tsui
