Honduras has four airports that matter to visitors. Roatán's Juan Manuel Gálvez International (RTB) is the island gateway, with direct flights from North America and short domestic hops to Utila, Guanaja and La Ceiba. San Pedro Sula's Ramón Villeda Morales International (SAP) is the main mainland gateway and the practical start for Copán Ruinas, roughly 3 hours by tourist shuttle. Palmerola International (XPL) near Comayagua serves the Tegucigalpa area and the south. Golosón International (LCE) in La Ceiba is mostly a domestic link, useful because the ferry dock for Roatán and Utila is close by.
Pick the airport that matches your first stop, not the cheapest fare. A cheap flight into San Pedro Sula followed by a domestic hop to Roatán can cost more in time and money than a direct RTB fare. If your trip is diving on Roatán or Utila, book RTB. If it is Copán Ruinas plus the north coast, book SAP. If it is Tegucigalpa or the south, book XPL.
On arrival, expect a small terminal, a queue for immigration and a taxi rank outside. There is no useful public transport from any of these airports; pre-booked shuttles and taxis are the norm. Change a small amount of money at the airport and use ATMs in town. Mobile coverage is fine at RTB and SAP, patchier on the mainland roads.

Tips
Book the domestic hop and the international flight on separate tickets only if you have a spare day; small Honduran airlines change schedules and a missed connection is your cost. Leave early for La Ceiba if you plan to catch the afternoon ferry. Carry small US dollar notes and lempiras for taxis, and agree the fare before you get in. Airport taxis are not metered.
Semana Santa and Semana Morazánica close offices and fill domestic flights; book those weeks months ahead. If you are arriving late, sleep near the airport and travel in daylight — the parent country guidance is to avoid night driving on the mainland.
