Hațeg is a small Transylvanian town of about 9,700 people in Hunedoara County, and the practical centre of Țara Hațegului — the basin where dwarf dinosaur fossils were found. The sights are villages and ruins spread over 20 km, so a car or a hired taxi does the work. Without wheels, Hațeg is a half-day stop between Deva and Petroșani, not a base.
