Practical tips
Dress for the monuments. The Mausoleum and several pagodas enforce covered shoulders and knees, and the Mausoleum is a silent, single-file queue. Bags are screened; leave large luggage at your hotel.
Carry small cash for water, coffee and the odd small temple ticket, and expect to pay in đồng. Walking the Old Quarter means stepping into traffic at times; cross at a steady pace and let motorbikes read your line.
