How much does a trip to Guyana cost? Daily budget and prices

Guyana splits into two budgets. Georgetown and the coast are ordinary Caribbean-mainland prices: cheap food, cheap minibuses, hotels that have risen sharply with the oil boom. The interior — Kaieteur, Iwokrama, the Rupununi — is sold as packages with flights, guides and full board bundled, so it dominates the total.

The figures below are per person per day, sharing a room at mid and comfort level, international flights excluded. 2026 estimate. The budget total is the country-level range for a guesthouse, cook-shop food and minibuses; the component columns below it are indicative and can add up to roughly US$60–115 once sights and extras are included.

Street and cook-shop food is the best value in the country. A chicken curry and roti runs GYD 1,200–2,000, a Banks beer GYD 400–800. Georgetown mid-range hotels sit around US$110–200 a night, and the oil boom has pushed those rates up faster than anywhere else in the region.

The big-ticket items are the interior. A Kaieteur Falls day flight is US$250–400, and an interior lodge with full board is US$150–300 per person. Both are usually booked as part of a package rather than paid on the day.

A Georgetown-only week can be done cheaply. Add Kaieteur and a Rupununi or Iwokrama lodge and the same week costs several times more, because light aircraft seats and full-board lodges are the bulk of it. Most travellers book this as one package through an operator, which is also how the flights are secured.

If the interior is the reason for the trip, budget it first and treat Georgetown as the cheap add-on, not the other way round. A day flight to Kaieteur avoids the cost of an overnight lodge stay (check).

Stay in Georgetown longer and shorten the lodge circuit. Eat at cook-shops and markets rather than hotel restaurants. Use minibuses and shared taxis on the coast instead of private transfers. Take the Kaieteur day flight rather than an overnight lodge if the falls are the priority.

Book interior packages early — seats on the small planes are the constraint, not rooms. Check seasonal road and flight reliability with your operator before fixing dates (check).
