Gumi is an electronics-manufacturing city on the Nakdong River, home to Samsung and LG Display plants, with one real reason to stop: Geumosan Provincial Park, a 976 m mountain with a lake, a waterfall and a temple above the city. Trains on the Gyeongbu line and the Gimcheon-Gumi KTX stop make it an easy half-day or one-night add-on between Daegu and Gyeongju. There is no old town to wander and no night market scene; the sights are spread out and buses are the only practical way around.

Getting around

City buses cover the station, City Hall, Geumosan, Indong and the industrial complexes; adult fare is about ₩1,500 with T-money or Cashbee and transfer discounts. Most routes run roughly 05:30–22:30. Bus stops are labelled in Korean, so use KakaoMap or Naver Map. The Daegyeong Line metropolitan railway (opened December 2024) links Gumi Station with Daegu and Gyeongsan. Taxis are cheap for short hops; Geumosan Market is about 5 min by taxi from Gumi Station.

Watch out

Safety

Gumi is a low-crime industrial city and safe to walk at night in the centre. The real risks are mountain weather on Geumosan, fast traffic on the riverside roads and buses that stop running around 22:30.
  • Geumosan is a real 3.5 h round-trip hike: start before 10:00, carry water, and check the weather before you commit.
  • Bus #12 to Geumosan runs roughly every 90 minutes: check the last return bus before you start walking.
  • Gumi has no airport and no metro of its own; the nearest KTX station is Gimcheon (Gumi), about 15 min away.
  • Summer monsoon (Jun–Jul) brings heavy rain and the waterfall trail gets slippery.
  • Industrial complexes are working sites, not attractions: don't wander in expecting a tour.
