Gandía is a working Valencian city of about 78,000 people with a separate beach strip 4 km east, so the old town and the sand do not compete. It is 65 km south of Valencia on the hourly C1 train, which makes it a practical two-night add-on to a Valencia trip rather than a destination on its own. The draw is the Borja palace, the birthplace of fideuà, and 7 km of fine-sand beach that stays open in winter.
