Forster
Give Forster 2–3 nights if you want beach days and a lake; 1 night only if you are breaking the drive between Sydney and Port Macquarie.
Forster sits on a narrow strip between the ocean and Wallis Lake, joined to Tuncurry by a causeway bridge. It is a family beach town rather than a sightseeing town: the day is swimming, the lake, a lookout and seafood. Two nights covers it; three if you add the beaches south at Pacific Palms or a day in Booti Booti National Park.

- Oceania ↗Oceania's island states guard their farms and reefs at the border: tick 'yes' on the arrival card for any food, plant, animal product, soil or used outdoor gear, and let the officer decide.
- Oceania ↗Across the tropical South Pacific, cyclones are possible from November to April: choose insurance that covers weather delays and keep one spare night before a long-haul departure.
- Australia and New Zealand ↗Both countries drive on the left, with long distances between fuel stops in the outback and on New Zealand's back roads; fatigue causes more visitor crashes than speed.
- Australia ↗Almost every visitor needs a visa or an electronic authorisation (ETA or eVisitor, depending on passport) before boarding: apply only through the official Department of Home Affairs site or the official AustralianETA app, and check the rules for your passport.
- Australia ↗Declare all food, plant material, seeds, wood and animal products on your arrival declaration; undeclared items can bring on-the-spot fines or visa cancellation. When unsure, declare it.
- Australia ↗Drive on the left. An overseas licence in English (or with an official translation or International Driving Permit) is accepted for visitors; check the state rules and your rental contract.
- Australia ↗Swim between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches; rip currents cause most beach drownings.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: beaches, lookouts and the national park are 5–30 min apart and buses are limited. In town you can walk the foreshore, the bridge and the main beach. Parking near the main beach fills by mid-morning in summer.

Watch out
Safety
- Swim between the red and yellow flags; the ocean beaches have rips and no lifeguards outside patrol season (check dates).
- The lake is calmer than the ocean but still deep in the channels: watch children near the bridge and the breakwall.
- Summer school holidays and Easter fill every motel and caravan park: book weeks ahead.
- Bluebottles and occasional shark sightings close beaches: follow council signage.
- Mobile coverage is patchy in Booti Booti and around Seal Rocks; download maps before you drive.

- Airport-to-bed contract for SYD and NTL: drive times field-checked, last petrol before the Lakes Way, late-arrival motel rung.
- Four walking clusters with rescue anchors: Forster centre and bridge, Tuncurry, Cape Hawke and Booti Booti, Pacific Palms beaches.
- Place pages with verified cutoffs (Cape Hawke lookout, Bennetts Head, Booti Booti, Wallis Lake foreshore) and eat pages with last orders.
- Patrol-season and beach-closure fixtures so gates A–D can go green.
