Flanders is the Dutch-speaking north of Belgium: five provinces packed into a few thousand square kilometres, with medieval cores 25–60 minutes apart by train. You do not need to change hotels to see them. Sleep in Ghent for a walkable medieval centre between Bruges and Brussels, in Antwerp for fashion, Rubens and the best station in the country, or in Bruges if you want the postcard streets after the day-trippers leave. Everything else is a train ride.
