The Eastern Netherlands is the country's outdoor half: the Veluwe heath and forest, the Betuwe orchards, and a string of Hanseatic towns with intact old centres. It is not a first-trip region unless you want nature and small cities rather than canals. Two bases cover it — Arnhem or Nijmegen for the south and the Veluwe, Zwolle or Deventer for the north and the IJssel towns — with the rest as train or bike day trips.

Bags between cities
