The honest verdict

Dushanbe's sights lie along one long avenue, and the summer heat is severe. The trips that go wrong walk the avenue at noon in July, photograph something they should not, or plan the Pamir Highway from a three-night city break. Four clusters cover a first visit: Rudaki Park, the museum and opera, the Rohat tea house and Mehrgon bazaar. Hisor and the Fann Mountains are trips away from one kept bed.
