Central Tajikistan
Sleep in Dushanbe; do the city on foot in the morning and evening, go to Hisor as a half-day, and treat the Fann Mountains as a separate overnight with a driver.
Rules in force · 3
- Tajikistan ↗Check entry rules on the official e-visa portal only; many nationalities need an e-visa, and the Gorno-Badakhshan (Pamir) region needs an extra permit.
- Tajikistan ↗Carry Tajik somoni in small notes; markets, taxis and tea houses are cash-first, and cards work mainly in hotels and larger shops in Dushanbe.
- Tajikistan ↗Land borders, including those with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, have been closed or restricted at times: confirm the current status before you plan an overland leg.
The region is one base, one short excursion and one long one. Dushanbe is a green, wide-avenued city that works on foot in the cool hours. Hisor is a half-day by car; the Fann Mountains are a full day each way on mountain roads and need their own nights.
Where to sleep
Around Rudaki Avenue for first-timers.
Fortress and madrasa; about 45 min each way by car.
Iskanderkul and the lakes; 4–5 h each way by road.
Night sequences
- 3 nights
- Dushanbe 3, Hisor as a half-day
- Dushanbe + Hisor + Fann Mountains in 3 days is mostly road time.
