The Darling Downs is Queensland's farm belt west of the Great Dividing Range: rolling plains, cotton and grain country, cattle, and Toowoomba, the biggest inland city in the state. It is a driving region, not a resort one. Come for a night or two out of Brisbane, a wine stop on the Granite Belt, or as the first leg of a run west to Roma and Carnarvon Gorge. Come for beaches or reef and you are in the wrong place.

- Granite Belt
- The coldest part of Queensland; winter nights near or below freezing. Harvest and picking events run roughly January to March.
Spring and autumn are the comfortable windows. Summer is hot and storm-prone; winter days are clear but cold at night.
