Where to stay in Cork: best neighborhoods and hotels

Stay in the city centre if this is your first trip to Cork. The compact core sits on an island between two arms of the River Lee, and the English Market, Oliver Plunkett Street, the pubs on MacCurtain Street, and the bus and train stations are all within roughly a 20-minute walk (check).

Pick Kinsale if you want a small harbour town with restaurants and a car-friendly base for the coast. Pick Cobh if you are here for the harbour and the heritage sites, or arriving by sea. Both sit outside the city and need a train, bus or car to reach, so they work as a base only if you are not spending your days in Cork (check).
