Cork airport to city centre: trains, buses, taxis and costs

Cork Airport (ORK) sits about 8 km south of the city centre, so every transfer is short. The bus is the default for solo travellers and anyone on a budget; a taxi makes sense for two or more people with luggage, or for early and late flights when the bus is thin.

Bus Éireann runs route 226 between Cork Airport, the city centre and Cork Kent railway station, with the 226A covering a similar corridor. The ride into the centre takes roughly 20–30 minutes depending on traffic on the approach roads.

Pay with a Leap card or a contactless card or phone on board; a single fare is a few euro. Buy a Leap card at the airport or in the city if you plan to use buses around Cork — it also works on city services.

Buses run through the day but thin out in the evening and on Sundays. If you land late, check the last departure before you book a flight, and have a taxi as a fallback.

A taxi from the arrivals rank takes 15–20 minutes to the city centre in normal traffic and costs about €20–30 on the meter. Late at night or with heavy traffic it can run higher.

Taxis at the airport are metered and take card or cash. Ride-hailing apps work in Cork, but pickup points at the airport can be restricted — follow the signs rather than waiting at the kerb.

For two or more travellers with luggage, the taxi often costs about the same as two bus fares and saves the walk at the far end.

If Cork is a stop on a longer trip, hiring a car at the airport is the practical way to reach Kinsale, Cobh, west Cork and Kerry, where buses are infrequent. Expect €40–90 a day plus insurance, and note that many credit-card rental policies exclude Ireland, so budget for excess cover at the desk.

Cork Kent railway station is in the city centre, not at the airport. To reach it, take the 226 bus or a taxi, then continue by train toward Dublin, Limerick or Tralee. Allow 30–40 minutes between landing and a city train if you are connecting.

These are 2026 estimates for a single adult, one way. Two people sharing a taxi usually pay less per person than two bus fares once luggage is counted.

Land in daylight if you can: the bus is frequent and the city is easy to walk once you arrive. If you land after the last bus, book a taxi or confirm a hotel shuttle in advance.
