Cassadaga

Go for a half day: readings, the bookstore and a walk between the parks. Two hours is enough; sleep in DeLand or Daytona Beach, not here.

Cassadaga is a small unincorporated community in west Volusia County, between Deltona and Lake Helen, built around the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp founded in 1894. It is known for camp-certified mediums and healers, and most visitors come for a reading, the bookstore and a short walk. There is one hotel and one cafe, so it works as a stop on an I-4 day, not a base.

  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around

A car is the only practical way in and out: from I-4 take Exit 114, then Highway 472 toward Orange City/DeLand, right onto Dr. Martin Luther King Parkway, then right onto Cassadaga Road (County Route 4139) and follow it about 1.5 mi to Stevens Street. Inside the village you walk: the camp, the hotel, the bookstore and the parks sit within a few blocks of each other.

Car, about 10 min west on Highway 472

Closest fuel, groceries and chain motels; Blue Spring State Park is nearby for manatees in winter.

Door to door: About 45–55 min

Beach and a small historic downtown; a full half day if you combine it with the coast.

Car, I-4 east, about 30–40 min

Beach, boardwalk and Speedway; the obvious pairing if you are driving the I-4 corridor.

Door to door: About 1 h

Car, I-4 east then SR-44 and A1A south, about 50–60 min

Lighthouse and inlet views; go early, the tower gets hot by midday.

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

Cassadaga Hotel (camp entrance)

The only in-village option: a Spanish Mission-style hotel at 355 Cassadaga Road with a cafe, gift store and event space. Book ahead; it is small.

DeLand

About 15–20 min north-west by car; a full downtown of hotels, restaurants and bars. The practical base for this stop.

Orange City

About 10 min west by car; chain motels along the I-4 corridor, cheapest beds near the exit.

Daytona Beach

About 30–40 min east by car; beach hotels and the widest choice if you are combining the coast.

Watch out

Safety

Very low street crime in a tiny village; the real issues are heat, summer storms and driving on I-4. Do not sleep in your car, and do not wander the camp after dark expecting it to be a tourist attraction — it is a residential religious community.
  • No public transport reaches the village; without a car you cannot get here.
  • Readings are paid sessions booked through camp-certified mediums — confirm the price and length before you sit down, and treat the camp's rules with respect; this is a practising religious community, not a show.
  • Do not sleep in your car or overnight in the village without a booking.
  • Summer afternoons bring heavy thunderstorms, and the area is in hurricane season from June to November.

  3. Reading pages with verified booking routes, session lengths and price bands, plus a clear note on camp etiquette.
  4. Storm and hurricane fixtures so the I-4 corridor can go green in summer.
