The Panorama Route is the classic day out. From Belfast, drive east through Dullstroom and Lydenburg, then follow the R532 past the Mac-Mac Falls, Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls, Bourke's Luck Potholes and God's Window. Each stop is short; the driving and the viewpoints fill a day. Start early, because afternoon mist and summer storms can close the view at God's Window.
Blyde River Canyon is the other headline. The main viewpoints — Three Rondavels, Lowveld View and the Pinnacle — sit along the same road, so you can combine them with the Panorama Route if you leave at first light. If you only have half a day, choose Three Rondavels and skip the rest.
