What a day costs by travel style
These are per-person daily totals for a traveller sharing a room at mid-range and comfort level. Visa fees, international flights and organised trips are not included. Figures are a 2026 estimate and move with the taka, so treat the bands as planning ranges rather than quotes.
The jump between tiers is mostly accommodation and transport. A backpacker sleeping in a basic hotel, eating local food and taking buses and trains can travel for a fraction of a mid-range day, while a comfort traveller in a Gulshan 5★ with a private car and guide spends several times more.

What individual things cost
Food is the cheapest part of a Bangladesh trip. A plate of kacchi biryani in a Dhaka restaurant runs ৳250–550, and a cup of cha at a street stall is ৳10–30. Local restaurants and hotel breakfasts sit between those two. Alcohol is the exception: it is restricted, and a beer in a licensed hotel bar costs ৳600–1,200.
Transport is cheap but slow. An Uber across central Dhaka is ৳300–600; rickshaws and CNG auto-rickshaws cost less but need the fare agreed before you ride. Domestic flights, useful for skipping long road days, start around ৳8,000 one way. Entry tickets are modest — Lalbagh Fort for a foreign visitor is about ৳500, check the current rate at the gate.

Cash, cards and ATMs
Bangladesh runs on cash. Keep a stack of ৳50 and ৳100 notes for rickshaws, tea, small restaurants and entry tickets, because change is often short. Outside Dhaka and Chattogram, card acceptance drops sharply and you should assume you will pay in notes.
ATMs are common in Dhaka, but per-withdrawal limits and fees vary and foreign cards are sometimes refused, so carry a second card and a cash backup. Ride-hailing apps show the fare upfront in Dhaka; for rickshaws and CNG auto-rickshaws agree the price before you get in.
Where to save and where to spend
Save on beds and food: basic hotels and local restaurants are where the low daily totals come from, and eating where Bangladeshis eat is both cheaper and better. Spend on time: domestic flights and a car with a driver cut hours from road days, which matters more here than almost anywhere because journeys take longer than the map suggests.
Spend on the organised trips too. Sundarbans and Hill Tracts travel needs permits, boats and a guide, and cutting corners there costs you the trip rather than the money. If you want a single number to plan against, use the mid-range band and add your organised-trip days on top.
