Acadiana is Cajun Country: the prairie and bayou parishes of south Louisiana where Cajun and Zydeco music, Cajun food and French-descended culture are everyday life, not a show. It is a driving region — Lafayette is the practical base, Breaux Bridge, Opelousas, Eunice, Mamou and the swamp tours are 20–60 minutes out. Come for a festival weekend or a music-and-food loop of 2–3 nights; a rushed day-trip from New Orleans spends five hours in the car for a few hours on the ground.
