Yuma
Give Yuma one night, two at most: a winter base for the Territorial Prison, the river parks and Mexican food, not a summer stop.
Yuma sits in Arizona's southwest corner on the Colorado River, across from California and about an hour from the Mexican border. It calls itself the sunniest city on earth, and the numbers back it: it is the driest and least humid populated place in the contiguous US, with 175 days a year at 32°C or above. Winter visitors fill the RV parks from November to March; summer is punishing. Most travellers use it as one night on Interstate 8 between San Diego and Phoenix, or as a snowbird base for a week or more.
