The cheapest version of Yerevan is a walking day. Sleep in a hostel or guesthouse near the centre, eat lahmajun, shawarma or a market lunch, ride the metro or a marshrutka when your feet give out, and spend your one paid ticket on whatever you came for. The Cascade steps, the parks along it, the church courtyards and the produce halls cost nothing and fill a full day.
Two things break the budget: a hotel instead of a hostel, and a private driver day. A driver day to Garni, Geghard or further south runs AMD 25,000–50,000 on top of your normal transport line, so it is worth doing once and sharing the cost.

Tips
Eat where locals queue at lunch. A lahmajun counter or a shawarma window with a line is both cheaper and faster than a sit-down restaurant, and the same dish costs a fraction of a hotel menu.
Shop in the market halls for breakfast and picnic food: bread, cheese, seasonal fruit and dried fruit cost far less than café breakfasts. Carry small dram notes; change is not always easy to get.
Use ride-hailing apps rather than hailing a taxi on the street. The app shows the fare upfront, which removes the main haggling risk. Read the scams page before your first night out.
Travel in November–March if you want the lowest beds and the fewest crowds, but expect cold and snow. Summer is peak season and prices follow. Outside the centre, carry cash: cards work widely in Yerevan but less so further out.
