Yerevan is a compact, hilly city with a hot summer: do the Cascade, Matenadaran and the memorial before 11:00, sit indoors at midday, and take the square and the streets after 18:00.
Yerevan's sights fit in four short clusters inside about 4 km, and taxis are cheap. The trips that go wrong are the ones that climb the Cascade at 14:00 in July, arrive at 03:00 with no plan for the door, or visit Tsitsernakaberd on a closure day without checking. Four clusters cover a first visit; Garni–Geghard and Khor Virap are trips away from one kept bed.

Go late afternoon: take the escalators inside up, walk the terraces down, and be on the top terrace before sunset if Ararat is clear; the outdoor stairs are free and always open, the galleries have their own hours.

Morning by car, 90 minutes: the memorial and the museum together; dress covered, keep voices low, and check that the museum is open on your date. On April 24 expect road closures and very large crowds.

Language
Armenian is an Indo-European language on its own branch, written in the alphabet created by Mesrop Mashtots in 405. Russian is widely spoken; English is common among young people in Yerevan and in tourism.
