Yelizovo is Kamchatka's airport town: about 40,000 people on the Avacha River, 32 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Almost everything a visitor wants — hotels, tour operators, restaurants, English-speaking staff — is in the capital. Yelizovo makes sense as an arrival-night bed, a bus-station hop, or a base for helicopter and volcano tours run by local companies.

Getting around

The town centre is small enough to walk. Taxis are the practical way to reach a hotel or the market from the airport; agree the fare before you get in. Bus #104 links Yelizovo with Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (about RUB 30, check). The bus station serves Paratunka/Termalny roughly hourly and Esso early in the morning.

Safety

Yelizovo itself is quiet and low-crime; the real risks are weather, long distances and the language barrier. Follow your government's travel advice for Russia before booking anything.
  • Outside the airport, English is rare: have addresses written in Russian and a translation app offline.
  • Card payment is not universal in the town; carry rubles.
  • Volcano and helicopter tours are weather-dependent and sell out in summer: book ahead through a licensed operator.
  • Distances on Kamchatka are long and roads are few; do not plan tight connections between a flight and a tour.
