Xochitepec
Give Xochitepec one night as a spring-pool and hacienda stop between Cuernavaca and Xochicalco, not a base: two nights if you want a full pool day.
Xochitepec is a small Morelos town about 2 hours by direct bus from Mexico City, used by couples as a weekend escape for mineral-spring pools, colonial churches and haciendas, and the Xochicalco ruins 20 minutes away by taxi. The centre is walkable in an hour; the pools and haciendas sit outside it. Budget one night, or two if a pool day is the point.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Mexico ↗Check entry rules for your passport with Mexico's National Migration Institute (INM) or your nearest Mexican consulate; keep proof of your entry (stamp or digital record) until you leave.
- Mexico ↗Security advice differs by state: some governments advise against travel to parts of several states. Check your own government's advice for each region on your route.
- Mexico ↗Do not drink tap water; use bottled or filtered water and ice from reliable places.
- Mexico ↗Foreign visitors to Quintana Roo (Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Bacalar, Holbox) pay the state VISITAX online at visitax.gob.mx only; lookalike sites add fees.

Getting around
The historic centre is compact and walkable. Taxis wait at the sitio near the Zócalo and hotel desks call them; Uber also operates. Use taxis for the balnearios on the Carretera 95 and for Xochicalco, about 20 min away. Fares are short-hop, cash-friendly; agree the price before you get in.

Safety
- The parish church of San Juan Evangelista was badly damaged in the 2017 earthquake and is under renovation; mass has been held on the rebuilt roof. Check access before you plan a visit.

- Some balnearios have no in-and-out privileges and no card machines: bring cash.
- The municipal market is busiest on Sunday and half-empty on other days.
- Weekend weddings fill the hacienda hotels: book ahead for Fri–Sun.
