Xinjiang’s vast size makes base‑hopping costly; stay in Urumqi 3–4 nights for flights and city sights, then day‑trip to Turpan, Kashgar and Kanas Lake. Skip the 33‑hour Beijing‑Urumqi train unless you have extra time.
