Windsor sits on the southwest tip of Ontario, across the Detroit River from Detroit — the only spot in Canada where you drive south to enter the country. Downtown hotels, Caesars Windsor and the riverfront park sit within about 500 m of each other, so a car-free day works; everything else (Ford City, Old Sandwich Town, the wineries) needs a car. Most travellers give it one or two nights, then push on to Essex County, Pelee Island or Toronto by train.

Get around
Downtown is walkable; the riverfront park is best on foot. Transit Windsor runs 17 bus lines — cash fare $3.75 with a two-hour transfer, day pass $11, drivers give no change and cards are not accepted on board (buy a TW Smart Ride or Smart Pass card instead). For Ford City, Old Sandwich Town and the county, rent a car. Uber and local taxi firms operate.
