Almost every trip to Sri Lanka starts here: Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) sits in Negombo, 33 km north of Colombo. Colombo is the commercial capital and the hub of the rail network, so one or two nights here covers the museums, temples and markets before you take the train to Kandy, Galle or the hill country. Beach time in the province (Negombo, Wadduwa, Kalutara, Beruwela) is a soft landing or a last-night buffer, not the reason to come to Sri Lanka.
