Virginia runs about 700 km west to east, from the Blue Ridge to the Atlantic, and the two ends are separate trips. Northern Virginia is Washington commuter country with metro access; the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge are a driving loop; Central Virginia (Richmond, Charlottesville) and the Historic Triangle plus Virginia Beach form a second corridor on I-64. Trains reach Richmond, Charlottesville, Williamsburg, Norfolk and Roanoke, but the mountains and the coast beyond Norfolk need a car.
