The honest verdict

The falls are 2 km from town, the heat peaks at midday and, from March to May, the spray can hide the view and soak you. The trips that go wrong walk between hotels after dark, arrive with too little cash in small notes, or plan Hwange or Chobe on the same day as the falls. Four areas cover a first visit; the safari is a trip away from one kept bed.
