Vama Veche is a small Black Sea village on the Bulgarian border, about 1 h 30 min south of Constanța by road. It is a low-rise, barefoot beach-and-bar place: camping, cheap rooms, fried fish and 24-hour beachfront drinking in high season. Two nights covers it; one night is enough if you only want the beach and a night out. Outside July and August it is largely closed.

Getting around

On foot. The village is small enough to cross in about 15 minutes; bring flip-flops or go barefoot on the sand. Cars are only useful for arriving and leaving. Buses and minibuses run along the E87 to Mangalia and Constanța.

Watch out

Safety

A small, low-crime beach village; the real risks are high-season drinking, cold water outside Jul–Aug, unposted bar tabs and the Bulgarian border, which you should only cross at the official E87 checkpoint.
  • High-season weekends are loud and crowded; book beds ahead or expect to camp.
  • Cash is king in the village; some bars and stalls take no card.
  • Sea is cold outside Jul–Aug; lifeguards are seasonal.
  • Do not cross to Bulgaria on foot through the dirt tracks at the village edge — use the official E87 crossing.
  • Stray dogs have been reported near the village edge; keep distance.
  • Prices at beachfront bars can be high and sometimes unposted: ask the total before ordering.
