How we chose
We ranked by what changes your trip: a marked route you can walk without a guide, beds or transport at the end of each day, a season that actually works, and a realistic number of days. Long trails with no village between stages lose points for a first visit, however good the scenery.
We also weighted access. Places reachable by a domestic flight plus a short transfer — Dalaman and Antalya for the coast, Kayseri or Nevşehir for Cappadocia, Trabzon for the Black Sea — suit a one- or two-week trip better than a place needing a car and two travel days.

When to go
Spring and autumn carry almost all Turkish walking. On the Aegean and Mediterranean coast, April to June and September to October give dry days, cooler air and open guesthouses; July and August push past 35 °C on exposed stretches and water sources can be dry. The Black Sea mountains run the other way: the Kaçkar and Ayder plateau are best in July and August, when snow has cleared and yayla life is at its busiest.
Cappadocia is walkable from April to June and September to October; midsummer is hot and dusty, and winter brings snow and closed trails. In the east, Munzur and Nemrut need June to September. Check the two Bayram holidays before booking: domestic travel peaks, buses and guesthouses fill, and prices rise.

Getting there
Fly into Istanbul, then take a domestic flight to the nearest trail region. Dalaman and Antalya serve the Lycian coast; Kayseri or Nevşehir serve Cappadocia; Trabzon serves the Kaçkar and Ayder. From the airport, buses, dolmuş minibuses and taxis cover the last stretch; on the Lycian Way you can also start or finish at a village with a bus link.
For the coast, many walkers fly to Dalaman, transfer to Fethiye or Kaş, and walk east or west with luggage transfers arranged by a local guesthouse. For Cappadocia, base in Göreme and walk from the door. For the Kaçkar, reach Trabzon, then bus to Ayder and walk up to the yayla.
