Tsugaru Peninsula is the remote northwestern tip of Honshu, known for writer Osamu Dazai, Tsugaru-jamisen music, and the Seikan Tunnel. The peninsula's sights — Cape Tappi, Takayama Inari Shrine, rice-paddy art in Inakadate — are spread across small towns connected by the Tsugaru Railway and local buses. Sleeping in one base (Goshogawara or Aomori) and using day trips saves the hassle of moving luggage.
