Trondheim is Norway's oldest major city and the country's student and cathedral town, built inside a bend of the Nidelva where it meets the Trondheimsfjord. It sits on the Dovre line between Oslo and the north, which makes it a natural stop rather than a destination in itself.

Get around
The centre is compact and walkable; buses (AtB) cover the rest, and the Gråkallbanen tram runs from St. Olavs gate up to Lian in Bymarka. Buy tickets in the AtB app before boarding — city buses often do not sell on board, and a ticket must be valid when you step on. Bicycle sharing and e-bikes are common given the hills.
