Três Coroas is a small Serra Gaúcha town on the Paranhana River, 100 km from Porto Alegre and about 30 min by bus from Gramado. Its one big sight is Khadro Ling, the first Tibetan Buddhist temple in Brazil, on a hill northeast of town. The river valley above town holds three rafting parks. The town itself is a footwear-industry centre of about 24,000 people with a walkable centre and little else.

Downtown is a little over 1 km across and walkable, with sidewalks. For the temple, the rafting parks and rural guesthouses, drive or take a taxi or Uber; there is no useful local bus network for visitors.

Safety

A small, calm town; the real risks are rural roads at night, river currents during rafting and summer storms. Standard Brazilian city precautions apply in the centre after dark.
  • Khadro Ling is an active religious site, not an attraction: dress and behave respectfully, and keep quiet during practice.
  • Rafting runs depend on river level and season; confirm the day's departure with the operator before you travel out.
  • The bus station is effectively a stop outside a small commercial building, not a terminal: buy and check times ahead.
  • Mobile coverage thins out on rural roads and at the rafting parks.
