Safe check-in timer

Going out alone, on a late walk home or a solo hike? Pick a time and someone you trust. Tap the button when you are safe. If you have not by then, the page sounds an alarm and prepares the message for you to send.

What this cannot do

  • It cannot call or message anyone by itself. It has no server and no phone number. When the time passes, you (or someone holding your phone) must tap a button to send the message.
  • If your phone is off, out of battery, has no signal, or the browser is closed or has been put to sleep by the phone, the timer may not fire on time. It will show the alarm the next time the page opens.
  • Phones pause web pages in the background, especially on iPhone. Keep the page open and the screen on for the timer to be reliable.
  • It is not an emergency service. In danger, call the local emergency number first. Emergency numbers by country.

How it works

  1. Choose how long you need, or a clock time, and add your contact and a note.
  2. Start the timer and keep the page open.
  3. Tap “I am safe” when you are back. The alarm stops.
  4. If the time passes, you get a red alarm, a vibration and, if you allowed it, a notification. Then one tap opens your messages app or WhatsApp with the text ready to send.

Your privacy

  • The timer, your contact, note and messages are saved only in this browser on this device.
  • Your location is read only when you tap “Share my location”. It is kept on this device and reaches your contact only inside a message that you send.
  • Nothing here is sent to Voykit or stored on a server. Clear it any time with “Clear” or by clearing site data.
  • Tell your contact about the plan first. They cannot see this page; they only get a message if you send one.
